Western Region Christian Council (WRCC) organized an inter-religious interaction programme to discuss about the role of religious communities in the promotion of human rights on 15 December in Pokhara which was participated by about 45 people from various walks of life including leaders and scholars of Hindu, Islam, Christian, Bahai, Bramhakumari, Om shanti religious communities, local government officials, officials of NHRC western region office, representatives of political parties, media and local peace activists.
The organizers invited NCCN General Secretary Dr. K.B. Rokaya as chief guest and main speaker for the programme. Dr. Rokaya addressed the programme giving emphasis to the equal treatment from government to all the religious communities in the religiously pluralistic society like ours. He said that as the country has been declared a secular state, government should announce national holiday in the Christmas, the greatest festival of Christians. He added that the full religious freedom promote communal harmony and strengthen our nationality and national unity.
The chairman of WRCC spoke on the objectives behind the formation of WRCC and its future strategies. He thanked NCCN for creating awareness among the Christians for their role and responsibility in the preservation of human rights. He said that NCCN has implemented the biblical massage of being the voice of voiceless.
All speakers gave emphasis on the active involvement of religious communities on the issues of peace, justice and human rights.
On the same programme, WRCC , on behalf of the Christians in western region of Nepal, felicitated Dr. Rokaya for his role in the promotion of peace, justice and human rights and for being appointed in the high position of National human rights commission .
On the same day , General Secretary Dr. K.B. Rokaya inaugurated the office of the western region Christian council (WRCC) addressing a WRCC office inauguration programme participated by 40 Christian leaders and pastors gathered from different districts in western region including Gorkha, Kaski, Nawalparasi and Gulmi districts.
